Home Security – Neighbourhood Watch Programme

Posted in on 13.03.11

We all hope our houses be secure and safe. There are many ways we can use to protect our houses and belongings, such as security products and systems. There is also another way to provide additional level of home security and you do not have to pay for it. This article will talk about this home security method- Neighbourhood Watch Programme( NHW).

First you should know what is Neighbourhood Watch? Neighbourhood Watch is a programme organised by the community in order to reduce residential crime. It is about working together as a community to improve our personal safety and household security. Most importantly, it is about encouraging interaction and a sense of responsibility between neighbours and communities. Members of the community agree to together to take responsibility for keeping an eye on each other's property, as a way of preventing crime.

Householders are encouraged to join together in small informal groups for the purpose of improving the safety of their families and other neighbourhood residents. It is not a police scheme. Police only lend their expertise to enable residents to organise themselves for the purpose of minimising crime in their community. Neighbourhood Watch will only work if the community supports the scheme.

What can Neighbourhood Watch schemes do?

There are many benefits of NHW programme. Possible thieves are less likely to try to break into the house in an area with neighborhood watch program then in an area without. The neighborhood watch sign is present in all the areas that joined the program. And even if someone does try to break in, there is a good chance that your neighbors will notice that and will notify the police right away. That is the reason why the watch program was always at the top part of the list of various burglary prevention and protection lists.

Participation in a watch program is also a low-cost way to protect your house. You will only have to spend a little of your time and pay more attention to what is going on with and around your neighbor's houses. Your neighbors will do the same for you by looking after your house and the safety of the area.

Why not join or set up a Neighbourhood Watch Programme in your street or community and make it a safer place for everyone who lives there, with the added peace of mind of increasing the security of your own home?

If your area does not yet participate in the watch program, you should probably meet with your neighbors and discuss the possibility of starting a new program. Your neighbors know the benefits of the neighborhood watch as well as you do and there is a good chance that they thought about that too and will be happy to participate. The more people participate in the program, the safer your house and your neighbor's houses are. You should also try to make the neighborhood watch program very efficient. Meet with your neighbors and find out more about each other. You and your neighboors can also participate some neighboor watch training programmes. There are many organizations that will offer these types of training programmes.
